Pregnant in Heels

Have you seen this new show on Bravo?  I.cannot.get.enough!  Seriously, two of my most favorite things rolled into one: pregnancy and reality TV.  Last night there was a woman who had gained 80lbs during her pregnancy and was, unsurprisingly, diagnosed with gestational diabetes.  I was just a tad bit horrified to see that she was still eating cupcakes, candy and ice cream (albeit lying about it). Talk about being in denial.  (Insert river in Egypt joke here.)

Not to be all judgey judgey, but I was diagnosed with GD after the dreaded sugary drink tests.  Therefore I can judge, right?  Actually, I didn’t think the drink was THAT bad.  It tasted like really, really sweet orange soda.  Maybe that should have been my first tip off that I was about to fail, big time.  Anyway, I went to see the “Beeties” doctor and he told me there was nothing I could have done differently, but now it was time to get serious.  I immediately started recording everything I ate and was super strict about my diet.  Small meals every two hours and very, very minimal sugar.  Do you know how hard it is to not eat sugar when all you are craving is cookie dough ice cream topped cookies baked into brownie cakes with whip cream and Cadbury Cream Eggs on top?  SO HARD!  I also tried to walk and ride the stationary bike as much as I could. Tried.

But my baby and her safety were more important to me than anything.  You know that saying, “A minute on the lips = a lifetime on the hips”?  Well, all I could think about was, “A minute on the lips = me birthing a ginormous baby.”  No, seriously.  Those GD babies can get LARGE and that’s just one of the many issues they can have.  Did this woman not have the ever-living shit scared out of her by her doctor about the repercussions of high blood sugar?  Why didn’t her husband encourage her to find alternatives for her sweet craving?  Why couldn’t she stop for the sake of her baby?  Why, why why? Judge, judge, judge.

I love this show and the crazies on it.  Maybe I will have a recap every week, but right now I don’t feel like discussing gestational diabetes woman’s wedding or the woman with the Day Husband and the Night Husband and wanting to have a British Lord as her baby’s Godparent.  I mean, did you see her Spotted Dick?
